Phragmipedium Jason Fischer 'Rod's Ruby'

This plant has never been submitted for judging, but hopefully I will be able to have it judged the next time it blooms. By now, I think I have a hundred pics or more of this plant. Every time it blooms, it just gets more impressive, and from discussions with Jerry Fischer, it appears that this one, and other siblings are most likely tetraploids. This plant just keeps getting bigger and BIGGER, with huge leaves that have a strongly stiff substance. The spike in flower now began flowering in October 2001, and still has three remaining buds in mid Feb 2002. It produced two side branches, and a total of 31 flowers over a period of almost five months. I woud guess by the size of the new growth that the next spike should produce more branches and even more flowers. Look for hybrid offspring from this plant on the website soon.
