Coryanthes macrantha - side view

This photograph was taken very shortly after the flowers opened. The petals of these flowers continue to reflex, roll up, and contort as the flower opens. At this stage, the flowers remind me of the"swan boats" you can ride on Chiemsee in Germany. Hmmm - I bet King Ludwig II of Bavaria would have loved this plant - or maybe he had a plaster version of it in one of his "follies"??
